In the bustling town of Dehri-on-Sone, Bihar, a remarkable story unfolds every evening. By day, Jameel Akhtar is a deputy general manager at NTPC, ensuring the smooth operation of one of Indiaās leading power corporations. By night, he becomes a beacon of hope for hundreds of underprivileged children, dedicating his time and resources to their education and well-being.
Jameelās journey began with a simple yet profound belief: āEducation is the best tool to change society and transform the lives of the poor.ā An engineering graduate from Harcourt Butler Technical University, Kanpur, he joined NTPC in 2001. When he was transferred to Nabinagar, close to his childhood stomping grounds, he saw firsthand the struggles of local families to access quality education.
Moved by the plight of these children, Jameel founded the Noble Public School in 2015. Starting with rented premises and a handful of teachers, the school quickly became a sanctuary for students from nursery to class VII. What set it apart was Jameelās unwavering commitment to providing completely free educationāno tuition fees, no charges for books or materials. Today, over 550 students, representing Hindu, Muslim, and Christian families, fill the classrooms, learning side by side in an atmosphere of communal harmony.
Jameelās generosity doesnāt stop at waiving fees. He personally funds the salaries of 14 teachers and covers all operational costs, ensuring that economic hardship never stands in the way of a childās education. To maximize resources, he negotiates directly with publishers for books, channeling every rupee saved back into the studentsā welfare.
Despite his demanding full-time job, Jameel remains deeply involved in the schoolās daily affairs. He monitors studentsā progress, interacts with teachers, and ensures that education at Noble Public School goes beyond academics, emphasizing personality development and holistic growth.
In a region where government schools often fall short, Jameelās initiative stands as a lifeline for families who cannot afford private education. Community leaders and teachers alike hail his efforts, confident that the quality teaching and nurturing environment will open doors to a brighter future for these children.
