💬 Navigating Perspectives
In a world where space exploration is often seen as the domain of large corporations and government agencies, two young students from India are proving that innovation knows no boundaries. Snehadeep Kumar from Durgapur and Mohit Kumar Nayak from Bhubaneswar, through their startup Nebula Space Organisation, are democratizing space research by developing India’s first gamma-ray detection CubeSat.
From Curiosity to Creation
Snehadeep’s fascination with space began in childhood, sparked by an encyclopedia and the Discovery Channel. His passion led him to build science projects, such as a groundwater replenishment model in Class 9. Encouraged by a teacher, he envisioned a platform for young researchers to publish their work—leading to the creation of the Aurora Academy Journal, a global, youth-driven scientific platform. This initiative connected students from 15 countries and even garnered responses from Nobel laureates.
Challenging the Space Monopoly
Recognising the exorbitant costs and monopolistic practices in the space industry, Snehadeep and Mohit founded Nebula Space Organisation in 2021. Their goal was clear: to make space research accessible and affordable. Despite initial challenges—such as team members leaving for traditional careers—a core group remained, determined to break the barriers to space exploration.
Innovation on a Budget
The team focused on developing CubeSats, miniature satellites for detecting gamma radiation—a field unexplored by Indian entities. Unlike conventional methods, they sourced local materials and used CNC machines for precision, drastically reducing costs. Their modular, plug-and-play CubeSats can be controlled via a smartphone, providing real-time data and live camera feeds from orbit. This approach not only saves money but also empowers students and researchers globally.
🗣️ Stories that Matter
Mohit Nijhawan, ex-pharma executive, founded Greenu, a micro-greens business earning ₹12 lakh/month. He trains over 300 farmers across India to grow organic microgreens, boosting incomes with minimal space and cost. His venture promotes chemical-free food, empowering farmers and changing mindsets about health and sustainable farming.
Jalandhar of Eesanam Kuppam, Tamil Nadu, turned his passion for plants into a ₹60 lakh/year business by specializing in Desert Rose (Adenium obesum). With over 450 varieties on his 15-acre farm, he exports globally and earns up to ₹12 lakh per rare plant. His success proves belief and patience can bloom into prosperity.
