India's in the Paris 2024 Paralympics: Fixtures and Activities
The Paris 2024 Paralympics will take place from August 28 to September 8, 2024, when India will be sending its biggest contingent of 84 athletes. The opening ceremony is scheduled for August 28, while competitive events will commence on August 29. India aims to surpass its impressive performance from the Tokyo 2021 Paralympics, where it won 19 medals, including 5 golds.

Some of India’s most notable athletes include Sumit Antil, who holds the para javelin world record and will attempt to defend his gold medal on September 2 along with Avani Lekhara and Manish Narwal in para shooting and Krishna Nagar in para badminton. Various events and disciplines such as para athletics, para swimming, para badminton, and para shooting are lined up to showcase India’s quest for a greater influence in the global para-sports arena.
Government Prepares for World Audio-Visual and Entertainment Summit in Goa
The world audio-visual and entertainment summit (WAVES) to be in Goa from the 22nd to the 25th of November _2024_ will be hosted by the government. This summit has been organized by various stakeholders on audio-visual and entertainment from different parts of the globe including policymakers and industry leaders to highlight trends, innovations and issues that they face in today’s market. It will comprise several panel discussions, workshops and networking platforms aimed at creating an environment for teamwork among its participants.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is the leading agency in this summit which stresses India’s increased prominence on world stage in terms of entertainment. The major purpose of this summit is to attract international attention toward India as a center for audio-visual content production and distribution. The government is dedicated in promoting creative industries so that it could improve their visibility worldwide.
At the Asian Surfing Championships 2024, India wins a Silver Medal for Team Event
The Indian surfing team earned a silver medal in the Maruhaba Cup, which is a team event, at the Asian Surfing Championships 2024 in Thulusdhoo, Maldives. The team comprising Kamali P, Ajeesh Ali, Srikanth D and Sanjay Selvamani scored 32.16 to top Heat 2 semi-final. In the final however, Japan topped with a score of 58.40 while India followed with 24.13 before Chinese Taipei (23.93) and China (22.10) settled for third and fourth respectively.

This achievement comes just one day after India secured its first-ever quota in surfing for the Asian Games 2026 which will take place in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan. Harish Muthu made history as well by becoming the first Indian to qualify for the quarter-finals at Asian Surfing Championships before elimination amidst tough competition. The silver medal further solidifies India’s growing power in surfing’.
RBI Launches Unified Lending Interface (ULI) Nationwide
As Governor Shaktikanta Das disclosed, Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to introduce 'Unified Lending Interface' (ULI) throughout the country. ULI, which was experimented on last year, intends to offer “frictionless credit” by simplifying the credit appraisal process all the more so small and rural borrowers. It strengthens ebb and flow of digital data from fund providers to lenders thus expediting the approval time. The Governor compared the possibility of ULI impacting lending services with that of Unified Payment Interface (UPI) affecting payments therefore enhancing India's digital spine with a view to addressing unfulfilled credit needs in agriculture and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

NCERT New Evaluation Model
NCERT, in a new report, has made recommendations for an evaluation model for Class 12 board exams. This regulation body of NCERT (PARAKH) suggests that various changes be made with respect to the existing evaluation model according to their report. It also combines the average performance from Classes 9 to 11, considering them differently when assigning weights between formative and summative assessment within these grades levels. For Class twelve, evaluation will use a ratio of thirty percentage formatives assessment versus seventy percent summative ones. Furthermore, this document insists on evaluating teacher’s performance and improving school physical facilities for promoting education conducive for learning environment. The changes proposed are intended to bring standardization across educational boards besides fostering overall assessment of learner’s abilities.
